Mission Statement for Curriculum, Instruction & AssessmentThe mission of Deer Valley Unified School District’s Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Department is to provide support to instructional staff that will result in increased proficiency in core subjects and technical subjects to encompass 21st Century skills fostered through leadership and coordinated partnership.
Arizona State Standards
The Arizona State Board of Education is by law responsible for setting policy for Arizona public schools, including the minimum requirements of what students are expected to learn – what are known as the academic standards. Standards are what a student needs to know, understand, and be able to do by the end of each grade. Standards build across grade levels in a progression of increasing understanding and through a range of cognitive demand levels. Standards are adopted at the state level by the State Board of Education and enacted by the Arizona Department of Education. Every school district and charter school in Arizona is required to teach and assess student learning of the Arizona State standards. Arizona public school educators are bound by law to teach the content standards and assess student learning for intervention, remediation, enrichment and the next learning cycle. Deer Valley Unified School District teachers unwrap standards, set learning targets, define success criteria and assess student learning based upon the course standards.
